Kato is designated as a Texas Certified Nursery Professional (TCNP) by the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association. Born and raised on Iowa farmland, she's been diggin' in the dirt her whole life. She has been a Dallas Gardener for over 20 years and accepts the challenges North Texas soils bring.
In addition to her consulting experience, Kato has worked more than a decade in local retail garden centers. Her favorite work includes educating and helping gardeners of all experience levels. As a volunteer, Kato has been involved with Montessori School Gardens, Schoolyard Gardens in DISD and teaching children gardening basics.
Kato is especially fond of her own vegetable and herb garden. Nothing tastes better than growing it yourself and the DFW climate allows edibles to grow 12 months out of the year. She's learned that raised beds and containers increase tomato & broccoli production. Other Kato passions include Texas natives and flowering bulbs, especially those that perennialize or naturalize the environment.
Kato's favorite work is doing Horticultural Housecalls. These personalized one-on-one experiences help homeowners with plant identification, landscape design ideas, and answers to garden and landscape questions - all in the privacy of your own backyard.
Kato's services are billed at $120 per hour for horticultural house calls, $60 per hour for landscape labor and seasonal color change is priced by bid. All services payable by cash, check, Venmo or Zelle.
